Schwinn AD2 versus Schwinn AD6 Airdyne Exercise Bike, Comparison Review

Schwinn is a well-known American brand and is highly regarded for producing top quality exercise bikes and bicycles. As you would expect, the Schwinn AD2 and AD6 Airdyne Exercise Bikes are manufactured to the same high standards as the rest of the Schwinn ranges. The unique thing about Schwinn’s Airdyne exercise bikes is that they work both the arms and legs simultaneously, giving you a complete body workout.

The Schwinn Airdyne AD2 and AD6 Exercise Bikes effectively offer you unlimited resistance levels with their unique air resistance system.  This air resistance systems works on the premise that the faster you pedal, the harder the resistance will be.  In addition, this air system creates a nice cooling breeze as you exercise so there's no need for a separate fan.

The Schwinn AD6 Airdyne Exercise bike is the higher-end model of the two bikes, and as such costs more money, but how does it compare to the AD2?

The Schwinn AD2 is designed more for light to moderate use, while the Schwinn AD6 is designed for more intensive use with its dual-stage Super Torque belt drive system compared to the AD2's single-stage belt drive system.  The AD6 also offers telemetry-enabled heart-rate monitoring which the AD2 doesn't have.

Both Airdyne bikes are solidly built, but the AD6 allows for a slightly more user weight capacity at 300 lbs compared to the AD2's 250 lbs capacity.  Overall, the build quality of the Schwinn AD6 is better than the AD2 and that is reflected in the better manufacturer's warranty.  (See table below for full features and specifications compared between these two Airdyne bikes.)

Motivational tip:  Cycling for just 30 minutes can burn between 207-345 calories for women, or 252-420 calories for men, depending on the intensity of the workout.

Summary

The Schwinn AD2 Airdyne Exercise Bike is a great bike for what it costs, but if you’re prepared to pay a little bit more then the Schwinn AD6 has a few more features like the telemetry enabled heart-rate monitor, and a heavier-duty design overall than the AD2.  The AD6 is better built with an up-dated belt drive system, has a more comfortable seat, and offers a slightly higher user weight limit.
